Fantastic Gauguin exhibition

I have to say that I was bowled over the by the new Gauguin Exhibition on at the moment at Tate Modern. I cant actually say that I have seen more than one Gauguin painting, in the flesh, as it were but this show demonstrates how prolific he was. With at least 4 or 5 rooms dedicated to his whole lifes work as a painter it is hard not to be impressed.
Having been armed with a super 2 hr programme the previous Sunday about the exhibition I felt I had a little knowledge before I trotted down there. Some exhibitions just make me want to rush off and grab the nearest tube of paint and start painting - this was one of them. The gorgeous colours, deep, moody and intricate are surprising and somehow very contemporary. In fact it was the colour that bowled me over, my only comment that I didnt manage to gain from the Tate is where on earth did he get his colours in Tahiti and which colours did he use? This would have enlightened fellow painters all over the world. When I think of it he was quite contemporary, dying in 1903 (my grandmother celebrates her 90th birthday and was born in 1920), which somehow puts this into perspective. Would definately recommend seeing this as it may not come round for a very long time.
